Galway garage-punk trio Shark School unleash their long-awaited debut album ‘Selachimorpha’, a furious, funny, cathartic and uncompromising introduction to one of Ireland’s most exciting new bands. Arriving via Strange Brew, the record is led by the album’s centrepiece and focus track, “Shark Song”.

Part battle cry, part mission statement, “Shark Song” captures everything that has made Shark School such a thrilling proposition since emerging from Galway’s underground scene. Driven by wiry guitars, pounding rhythms and the band’s trademark combination of humour, chaos and confrontation, the track embodies the restless energy running throughout the entire record.

Across eight tracks, ‘Selachimorpha’ explores anger, anxiety, identity, frustration and survival through a lens that is both deeply personal and sharply observant. Whether confronting societal hypocrisy, internal turmoil or the absurdity of modern life, Shark School refuse to soften the edges. Instead, they transform discomfort into something exhilarating.

Speaking about the release, the band say: “It means the absolute world to us to release our debut album ‘Selachimorpha’ out into the wild. We want to thank everyone who has supported us so well during the process of the album. This is only the beginning!”

The album arrives following a string of acclaimed singles including “Don’t Trust A Man” and “5AM”, tracks that established Shark School as a band unafraid to tackle difficult subjects with honesty, rage and biting wit. Yet ‘Selachimorpha’ reveals a broader and more complete picture, moving between moments of explosive punk catharsis and darker, more reflective territory.

Formed in Galway in 2023 by Nora Staunton (guitar/vocals), Peggy Ford (bass) and Meg Bruce (drums) Shark School have built a formidable reputation through relentless touring, sold-out hometown shows and festival appearances that have turned first-time audiences into devoted followers.

Their sound occupies a thrilling space between garage-rock, punk, indie and noise, drawing comparisons to the raw urgency of Nirvana, the off-kilter charisma of Wet Leg and the abrasive spirit of riot grrrl, while remaining entirely their own creation. What truly sets the trio apart, however, is their ability to pair blistering social commentary with humour, vulnerability and an unmistakable sense of personality.

Already known for selling out Galway’s iconic Róisín Dubh twice, sharing stages with NewDad, The Love Buzz and Elaine Malone, and appearing at major festivals including Electric Picnic, All Together Now and Beyond The Pale, Shark School have rapidly become one of Ireland’s most talked-about new live acts.

Now, with ‘Selachimorpha’, they deliver a debut that feels both timely and timeless; a record fuelled by frustration, friendship, feminism, and fearless self-expression.
