Dutch/Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí has released her new EP ‘Another Year Will Pass’ via Nettwerk. Showcased by its evocative title-track, the new collection marks a powerful chapter in the artist’s journey, exploring a period of emotional reckoning, transformation, and gentle release.
Written during a time of personal upheaval and deep introspection, ‘Another Year Will Pass’ sees néomí moving through the quiet ache of acceptance. The title-track is a meditation on change and the passage of time, unveiling a bittersweet reflection on the ways we grow, grieve, and eventually let go. With her signature blend of ethereal folk and cinematic alt-pop, she holds space for the kind of emotions that don’t come with easy answers.
“This EP was a very reflective time for me,” néomí shares. “After two years in therapy, and everything I’ve been through, I realised that I’ve started to see the world differently. Sometimes it’s frustrating that my brain doesn’t work the same way as others, but I’ve learned to accept it. I’ve even started to see it as something beautiful.”
Across the EP, including the previously released “Sit Back Baby,” “It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind),” and “Do You Want To Be Honest?”, néomí opens a window into her evolving inner world. From the lingering shadow of a past relationship to the quiet protest of existing in an overwhelming world, each song is a snapshot of a feeling fully felt. The writing is richer, more confident, and tinged with both melancholy and warmth.
“Every time I find myself drifting, I suddenly fall into this deep place of thought,” she explains. “From there, the songs just appear. This time, the biggest change was how I reflect. I’ve started seeing myself more clearly. I’ve written about the same relationship before, but this is the first time I’ve let go of the hope, the guessing. There’s no more holding on—just memory, and moving forward.”
Since the release of her acclaimed EPs ‘before’ (2022) and ‘after’ (2023) and her Edison Award winning debut album ‘somebody’s daughter’ (2024), néomí has quietly become one of Europe’s most soul-baring emerging voices. Her intimate live shows, poetic lyricism, and slow-burning vulnerability have earned her comparisons to artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Daughter, and Laura Marling. Now, with ‘Another Year Will Pass’, she steps into a new phase, where she remains clearer, deeper, and more present than ever.
