Emerging British artist Iona Luke returns with “From Dust”, a brand-new addition to her acclaimed debut EP of the same name. Released September 4th, the track will now sit as the sixth and final song on the project, reshaping the EP’s ending with a broader reflection on identity, connection and what it means to be truly seen.
Arriving just ahead of Iona’s second headline show at London’s Paper Dress Vintage on September 8th and following support from BBC Introducing, Radio 1, 6Music and Radio X, “From Dust” acts as the project’s true closing statement; a finale that widens the lens from the deeply personal themes explored across the EP and turns outward towards the strange, overwhelming experience of existing in the world at all.
“‘From Dust’ is the title track and finale of the EP, reflecting its place as the project’s closing statement,” Iona explains. “The song explores our relationship with the world around us, and how life can feel both overwhelming and unsatisfying at the same time. It captures the wonder and fear of being truly seen by another person beyond the dust we are all made of, while reflecting on the human tendency to rewrite, inherit, and interpret our own identities, histories, and flaws. It’s all dust and dirt, material and imaginary, a parade of who we are and who we try to be.”
That sense of contradiction sits naturally alongside the emotional world she has already built across ‘From Dust’. Where “Can We Still Hang Out?” confronts destructive devotion and “Bones” explores desire as something almost physically embedded within the body, the new title-track pulls those questions into a wider existential frame.
The expanded EP now runs across six tracks, each examining a different fracture point in early adulthood. “Crashing” tackles the feeling of becoming disconnected from your own body, while “Existential” captures spiralling questions around identity and creative purpose. “Dawn” sits in the quiet aftermath of grief, before “From Dust” closes the collection by asking what remains beneath all of those experiences.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as PJ Harvey, Patti Smith and Tori Amos, Iona Luke has quickly established a voice defined by literary lyricism, dramatic alternative-pop arrangements and fearless emotional expression. Raised in Shepherd’s Bush and shaped by her studies in English Literature at Cambridge University, her songwriting frequently blurs the boundaries between confession, poetry and visceral release.
The addition of “From Dust” follows a breakthrough period that has included appearances at The Great Escape Festival, more than two million streams across her growing catalogue, and her first full-band headline show at Paper Dress Vintage.
Now, with a second headline appearance at the venue approaching on September 8th with support from Berenice, the new track brings the first chapter of Iona Luke’s recorded career into sharper focus.
