Following the BBC Radio 2 B-listed success of recent single “Signal Fire,” Yorkshire duo Seafret return with the final preview of their forthcoming fourth album ‘Fear of Emotion’. “Driftwood” sees Jack Sedman and Harry Draper join forces with acclaimed British singer-songwriter James Morrison for a stirring, deeply personal collaboration.

Written together with Morrison, “Driftwood” began life as what the band describe as an “end of the world” song, a reflection on the overwhelming sense of helplessness that can arise from constant exposure to global suffering, poverty and greed. But rather than sink into despair, the track becomes a quiet anthem of closeness and perspective, urging listeners to hold tight to the people who matter most.

“Driftwood is a collaboration we wrote with the amazing James Morrison,” Seafret explain. “The song concept started off about being an ‘end of the world’ song. No matter where you go there’s news on suffering, poverty and greed. It can leave you feeling helpless at times and this song is about putting your arm around the ones you love and not taking things for granted. It’s such a special song to us as James Morrison was the artist Jack sang along to in his bedroom to ‘see if he could sing’ after his mum said he could when she heard him singing in the bath!”

Built around warm acoustic textures and swelling, cinematic production, “Driftwood” allows both Sedman and Morrison’s voices to shine as two distinct yet complementary tones intertwining across a song that feels intimate and widescreen all at once. The result is one of the emotional centrepieces of ‘Fear of Emotion’, capturing the album’s central theme: connection in the face of uncertainty.

Written and recorded across 2025, and produced by long-time collaborators Steve Robson and Sam Miller, the new album ‘Fear Of Emotion’ finds Jack Sedman and Harry Draper reconnecting with their roots while pushing the limits of their sound.

“The songs on ‘Fear of Emotion’ grew out of everything we’ve lived through these past few years — the bright, beautiful moments and the shadows that came with them,” the pair reflect. “We didn’t want a single track that didn’t feel honest or rooted in something real, and we think we’ve captured that. Making this record has been a joy from start to finish. The collaborations have added a magic we couldn’t have created alone.”

A decade on from their breakthrough, Seafret return with their most expansive and emotionally resonant album yet. Across its twelve tracks, the Yorkshire duo of Jack Sedman and Harry Draper channel the intensity of a transformative few years into songs that are as vulnerable as they are powerful. Where 2023’s ‘Wonderland’ was marked by distance and separation, ‘Fear of Emotion’ is rooted in connection and threaded with the joy of creative freedom.

From the brooding intensity of opener “River of Tears”, with its stormy textures and weighty emotional charge, to the stripped-back beauty of “Desert Heat”, the album journeys through moments of loss, longing and reconciliation. While “Wait” reflects on the ache of distance and the yearning for home. Collaboration plays a key role throughout, with KT Tunstall lending her voice to the poignant “Five More Seconds”, James Morrison joining on the stunning “end of the world” ballad “Driftwood”, and rising star Katie Gregson-MacLeod illuminating the intimate “Nobody Sees Us.”

The result is a record that feels both lived-in and newly alive, delivering a full-circle moment for a band rediscovering their purpose and potential. ‘Fear of Emotion’ is richly arranged, emotionally fearless, and reflective of two artists embracing the full spectrum of what they can be.
