Irish folk-rock duo Basciville announce new album 'Love In The Time Of The State' out March 13th via Faction Records + new single "Nothing Suprises Me Anymore"
Irish duo Basciville have announced their long-awaited second album ‘Love In The Time Of The State,’ arriving March 13th 2026 via Faction Records. The announcement lands alongside the release of stirring new single “Nothing Surprises Me Anymore”, a song that navigates apathy, endurance, and the quiet power of perseverance.
Speaking on the track, the Wexford-born brothers Cillian and Lorcan Byrne explain: “‘Nothing Surprises Me Anymore’ is about recognising the things we have control over in our day to day lives. There’s no surprise in how much harder it gets to merely survive, in how alone we are left by the state, but there’s beauty in the everyday. It speaks to our sheer will to find joy in what little we are given.”
Their upcoming LP ‘Love In The Time Of The State’ captures the duo at their most urgent and unflinching: a collection of songs wrestling with disillusionment, existential weariness, and a love that persists despite the rot. “How do you sing a love song when the world is disgusted with you — or you’re disgusted with the world?” they ask. The answer, it seems, lies in songs that are both raw and restorative.
Musically, the record conjures ghosts of late-90s Radiohead, Nirvana Unplugged, Jeff Buckley, and Gustavo Santaolalla, with folk-rooted textures and soaring, cathartic crescendos. Highlights include the shimmering opener “Higher Plans”, the biting “Meteors and Let Downs”, and “Your Own Head”, a haunting duet with Ailbhe Reddy that channels the album’s emotional centre.
A fierce reckoning with modern life, ‘Love In The Time Of The State ‘is both cinematic and searing, unapologetically personal and politically attuned. Here, Basciville are offering presence, clarity, and solidarity in a disoriented age.
Equal parts band and production duo, Basciville have spent the past few years as quiet powerhouses in the Irish music scene, working as collaborators, writers and producers with names including Susan O’Neill, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, The Ocelots, and Ailbhe Reddy herself. Their own output to date includes the EPs ‘Blues in Red’ and ‘For All Lost Youth’, as well as their acclaimed debut album ‘Hymns to the Air’.
Known for blending folk, art rock, orchestral swells, and lyrical introspection, their sound moves between sparse minimalism and expansive arrangements, always led by a desire to soundtrack both the personal and political unrest of modern life.
Their upcoming second album, written in the wake of socio-political disillusionment and spiritual fatigue, explores the dissolution of ideals, the friction between vulnerability and survival, and the quiet rebellions that begin inside your own mind.
