Rising North East songwriter Tom A. Smith has announced the upcoming release of his brand new EP 'Say What You Want', out September 26th via the legendary Fiction Records (home to The Cure, Tame Impala, St. Vincent). The announcement arrives hot on the heels of his recent single "Fashion", which has just landed a spot on the Absolute Radio playlist, alongside airplay on BBC 6Music including Lauren Laverne and Chris Hawkins and strong support from Radio X's John Kennedy.

"It's a new era for me," Tom shares. "I'm really proud of this and every inch of it's me. It all feels really exciting."

Alongside the EP announcement, Tom is also teasing a brand new track, "I Don't Blame You" (HERE), a bold, synth-leaning evolution in his sound, which will be officially released on the EP's launch day.

Written and recorded during a time of deep personal reflection, 'Say What You Want' finds Tom navigating the transition from adolescence to adulthood with raw honesty and sharpened songwriting. Blending slick guitar licks with textured electronics and introspective lyricism, the EP marks a major step forward - not just sonically, but in spirit.

Lead track "Fashion" playfully dissects image and confidence, while "What" becomes an anthem for quiet outsiders. Elsewhere, "Beautiful Way" is a tender meditation on perception and identity, while a stunning cover of cult '90s track "It's All Over" (originally by The God Machine) closes the collection with cinematic weight.

The EP is a declaration of intent, an unveiling of the songwriter and storyteller Tom is becoming.

EP Tracklisting: Side A 1. Fashion 2. What 3. I Don't Blame You Side B 1. Beautiful Way 2. It's All Over 3. Let's Go Dancing

At just 21, Tom A. Smith already boasts a CV that includes Glastonbury, BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, and support slots with everyone from Catfish and the Bottlemen to Sam Fender, Miles Kane, and Elton John (who hand-picked him for Hyde Park's Farewell Yellow Brick Road show).

Raised in Houghton-le-Spring just outside Sunderland, Tom first picked up a guitar aged four and hasn't stopped since. A familiar face across grassroots North East venues, his DIY spirit is matched only by his relentless passion for writing. Whether building his own home studio during lockdown or supporting his local community with headline fundraiser shows, Tom is a voice for his generation.

Now signed to Fiction Records, this new chapter sees him step into the spotlight with renewed purpose and creative freedom.
