Irish alt-rock / shoegaze outfit The Altered Hours release new single "Such A Steal" + announce tour dates

LISTEN TO “SUCH A STEAL” HERE

NEW ALBUM OUT NOVEMBER 7TH VIA PIZZA PIZZA RECORDS

+ IRISH LIVE DATES ANNOUNCED

Irish alt-rock / shoegaze outfit The Altered Hours are back at it once again to deliver their vibrant new single “Such A Steal”. Following their recent outing “Turn Away”, it’s the latest effort from the band’s eagerly awaited self-titled third album, which is out on November 7th via Pizza Pizza Records.

Capturing that same indie-rock fuzz the band have become synonymous with lately, “Such A Steal” finds them in a far more reflective guise. Swapping soaring hooks for a more solemn angle this time around, The Altered Hours are giving yet another twist in their already eclectic catalogue to date here.

Speaking about the new single, the band’s Cathal MacGabhann said, “This song just came straight out of the ether. For me, it’s the tempo & atmosphere that really makes this song ring true. It was written in one rush, done in about an hour. I was very obsessed with the exact tempo of this song when I demo’d it first at home. So when we were in the studio finishing the track together, we copied the tempo I had fixed on initially, which I think really translated to keeping the initial energy alive in its final form.”

“The lyrics have more of a veiled meaning on ‘Such A Steal’. It’s possibly about isolating myself from society because even the breeze on my skin is so overwhelming. It’s about how much I love this world, while simultaneously wanting to stay at arms reach away from its beauty.”

Following earlier singles “Turn Away” and “Lay There With You”, this new track further showcases the band’s evolving sound, one that balances shoegaze atmospherics with garage-rock grit, delivered with the sort of unfiltered emotional power they’ve long been celebrated for.

Today also sees a run of Irish dates being announced including the below and on sale at 12 noon:

Oct 10 - Ballina Arts Centre, Mayo (with YOP)

Oct 11 - Bold Frontiers Festival, Dundalk - Tickets

Dec 10 - Whelans, Dublin (main room) - Tickets

Dec 12 - Live at St. Luke’s, Cork - Tickets

Dec 13 – St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church, Galway

Since forming in 2010, The Altered Hours have become one of Ireland’s most vital underground bands, praised for their immersive sound, visceral live energy, and dedication to the independent spirit. Across two albums and a string of EPs on celebrated indie labels like A Recordings, Penske, and Art For Blind, the band has forged a distinct voice within the European alternative scene, at once fuzz-drenched, emotionally raw, and impossible to pin down.

They’ve shared stages with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pop Group, and members of Spacemen 3, and earned the admiration of peers like Fontaines D.C., who invited them to join their European and UK tours, including stops at The Bataclan, Paradiso, and Alexandra Palace. Guitarist Cathal Mac Gabhann has also stepped in as live guitarist for Fontaines D.C., touring with the band across Japan and Australia.

Now signed to Pizza Pizza Records, The Altered Hours step into a new phase. Their forthcoming self-titled album channels the spark of their revered live shows, while allowing a new emotional depth to shine. With McLarnon’s warm, tactile production capturing every detail, the album honours their psych-rock roots while opening up into bold new spaces; hook-laden, atmospheric, and fiercely honest.

This is the sound of a band who have grown together, sharpened their edges, and stepped confidently into the spotlight.
