Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes returns with new single & video 'Feed The Flames" + new album and tour details to follow

January 25, 2024: Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes has today shared her brand new single ‘Feed The Flames’, the second track to be taken from the acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter’s forthcoming album (details tba), her first LP in a decade.

‘Feed The Flames’ is accompanied by an official music video which shows Hayes in a brand new light, in which strength and vulnerability fuse to herald the return of one of Ireland’s most accomplished songwriters. The video was shot in West Cork, to where the Tipperary-born musician recently relocated.

Hayes says of ‘Feed The Flames’: “I originally began writing the song after watching Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Knowing a bit about their relationship off screen I was really taken by the depth of their connection, it was a living, breathing fire. What I got from delving into their relationship is that you can love something or someone so much only for your human fallibility to come along and destroy it.”

Gemma’s first new material in 9 years, 2023’s ‘High & Low’ garnered widespread airplay on the likes of BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Ulster, RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ lyric fm and more. The Business Post praised Gemma as “a songwriter whose work pivots between serious life experiences and an indie folk/rock style influenced as much by Nick Drake as My Bloody Valentine”.

Hayes will embark upon an Irish Tour in April & May, tickets are on sale now from gemmahayes.com, with a UK Autumn Tour to be announced soon. Gemma spent last year getting back out on the road, selling out both London’s Omeara and Dublin’s Whelan’s as part of a UK and Ireland tour. She’s also been gigging to great acclaim as part of an acoustic trio project with Lisa Hannigan and Bell XI’s Paul Noonan.

Gemma Hayes’ debut album Night On My Side was released in 2002, for which she won Best Female Artist at the Hot Press Awards and a Mercury Prize nomination. Since then, she has released four critically acclaimed studio albums and a limited-edition live album. Plans for the release of the new album are currently being finalized.

Gemma is constantly in demand for film and TV placements; she recently contributed to the soundtrack of the film adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s Greyhound of a Girl.  Her version of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’, recorded for the US TV series Pretty Little Liars, now has over 20 million streams on Spotify alone.
